Pickens Independent Baptist

We were privileged to spend the entire day with the good people of Pickens Independent Baptist Church in Pickens, SC. It reminded us so much of our home church, it was a breath of fresh air. Jason had the Sunday School hour to present our burden and teach, and I was asked to sing. Jason was also given an opportunity to share our ministry during the morning service and to preach for the evening service, when I was again given the opportunity to sing. One loving family took us out to eat after the morning service, and another took us out after the evening service. While we enjoyed the food, it was the fellowship that made our hearts sing. The entire day was a joy and blessing!

There were two particular high points of the day. First off, after the Sunday School, a man approached Jason and thanked him for the lesson he had given. With tears in his eyes, he relayed part of his life story and how Jason’s SS lesson had impacted him. That alone made our day because that’s what missions is all about—reaching people where they are.

As if that weren’t awesome enough, after the morning service, another man approached with a gift for Jason. It was a hand-made sling (like the one David used to slay Goliath) that went along with Jason’s lesson. The man wanted us to have it and hoped Jason might be able to use it as an example in future lessons. Is that cool or what?

We were blown away by the goodness and hospitality of this friendly little church. What a blessed day! Thank you, Pastor Morgan and the congregation of Pickens Independent!
